Metropolitan Insurance Company- Who Are They?

If you have ever taken out an insurance policy, chances are you would have heard of the Metropolitan Insurance Company, better known as MetLife, for short. But who are they? Here is a brief history of the massive insurance provider.

Founded in 1868, MetLife, Inc., began life in NYC. It was created as a mutual company, which is a corporation that is based on the idea of mutuality. Mutuality is a type of business that exists solely to raise money for its members or clients, which can then be used to provide various types of services and products to its members. The company, however, went 'public' in 1991, meaning that it now- in theory- no longer belongs to the employees or members, but instead exists solely to provide services to the general public.

MetLife is one of the chief providers of insurance coverage. It offers many different types of insurance policies, ranging from auto insurance to whole life coverage. Their mission aim is to 'help everyone build financial freedom.' This translates into a wide range of financial products and services designed to help its clients properly plan for each stage of their lives.

From their humble beginnings in the mid nineteenth century, MetLife has consistently proven itself to be a major competitor in the insurance field.
